Can't type password into MacOS login

Hi,

I have developed a strange issue over the last few days.


When I boot up my computer, the login screen with different users appears. When I click on my username, I can't enter a password.

If I click on guest it's fine.

If I boot in safe mode, then it's also fine (but annoying to use in safe mode).


Is this a virus? Any idea how to fix?

Hi tessafb,

I understand that when you start up your computer, you're unable to enter your password for your user account. I know it's important to be able to access your account, so I'm happy to help.

Since your account works fine in safe mode, then we know that your password is working fine. With your description of the issue, it's possible that there is a display resolution issue that is causing you to simply not see the password dialogue box. To resolve this, let's reset your NVRAM:

In addition, let's reset your SMC which can also help with system issues such as this:
